Walk the Red Road

A path of self-discovery, healing, and cultural preservation

People who follow the Red Road seek to live in harmony—with themselves, their communities, the spirits, the Great Spirit, and Mother Earth. The Red Road is a spiritual path rooted in respect, connection, and balance with the natural world.

It is a journey of self-discovery, healing, and cultural preservation, guided by wisdom passed down through generations. Walking this path helps us remember who we are, deepens our connection to Gichi-Manidoo, and teaches us to lead with love, kindness, and care for all living things. It brings us together and fills us with pride in our ways.

The Role of Elders

Elders are keepers of tradition. They play an important role in the Red Road. Elders pass down traditions, share wisdom, offer guidance, lead healing ceremonies, and show us how to live by principles like respect, interconnectedness, and balance. They are crucial in helping people on their journey towards a meaningful and balanced life.

Interconnectedness

Addiction affects not only the person but also their family, friends, and community. The Red Road's idea of interconnectedness reminds us that our actions impact others. So, when we work on our recovery, it not only helps us but also the people around us.

Respect

Being kind and considerate not just to yourself but to others and everything in nature. People show respect by offering tobacco, which is a way of saying "thank you", connecting with the spirits, and with the Creator.

It also means respecting others who are on their recovery journey. This respect can be shown with simple acts of kindness and understanding.

Balance

Finding balance in recovery is finding a healthy middle ground. It means taking care of your physical and mental health, managing your emotions, and nurturing your spirit. The Red Road teaches that balance is well-being. Traditional ceremonies and rituals help people find balance. When you're in balance, you're in harmony with yourself and the community.
